EARLY VOTING FOR THE NOVEMBER ELECTION

Early Voting is available to Massachusetts registered voters for state primaries, presidential primaries and state elections.  Early voting is not available for local elections.

  • All early voting will take place in Town Hall.
  • Once your ballot has been accepted by your local election office, you can’t take your ballot back or vote on Election Day.
  • If you’re applying for a primary ballot, and you are not registered in a party, you must indicate which party’s ballot you want to receive. If you don’t provide a party on your application, you will not receive a primary ballot.

EARLY VOTING FAQ's?

Q:  If I applied for a vote by mail ballot can I appear to vote in person at an early voting site or at the polls on Election Day?

A:  YES - If your vote by mail ballot has not been received back to the Town Clerk’s Office, you may still appear to vote in person at the polls on Election Day or at an early voting site.  These voters will be required to complete additional paperwork and will need to show an ID.  Should your mail in ballot be received after you voted early in person or at the polls on Election Day that ballot will be rejected and will not be counted


       NO
 - If a vote by mail ballot has already been received back by the Town Clerk’s Office.   A returned vote by mail ballot is considered cast and you will not be eligible to vote by mail, early in person or in person at the polls on Election Day. 

Q:  If I vote early in person can I appear to vote in person at the polls on Election Day?

A:  NO - If you appeared to vote early in person your ballot will be considered cast and you will not be eligible to vote by mail, or in person at the polls on Election Day.  Voting in Person at the Polls after submitting an early ballot is prohibited as outlined in 950 CMR 4 7.19.

When & how is an early voter's ballot (by mail or in person) cast?
All vote by mail and early voting in person ballots will be opened and inserted into a tabulator at the polls on election day.  Until Election Day, the unopened ballots are stored and kept secured.

Voting in Person at the Polls after submitting an early ballot is prohibited as outlined in 950 CMR 4 7.19.

UOCAVA Voters (Uniformed & Overseas Citizens Absentee Act)
For MA Military and their families living outside of MA, or overseas, and any MA resident currently residing abroad, you can vote your ballot by mail, fax or email.  Please click HERE to learn more about UOCAVA voting.

LAST DAY VOTER REGISTRATION HAS ENDED AS OF AUGUST 27, 2022.  Attention High School/College Students not yet 18: 
IF you turn 18 before the September 6 State Primary you must register to vote no later than Saturday, August 27th IF you plan to vote in the State Primary.
You can click HERE to download a form and return to the Town Clerk's Office.  Or you can click HERE to register on line.  You must have a valid MA Drivers License or MA State ID card to register on line.
In person voter registration will be open on Saturday, August 27th at Wenham Town Hall until 5:00 PM, or you can register on line up until 11:59 PM on August 27th.

2022 Vote by Mail Application
DEADLINE HAS PASSED - Last day to submit for the September 6th State Primary is August 29, 2022
Last day to submit for the November 8th General Election is November 1, 2022
The application must be in the Town Clerk's office no later than 5 PM to be eligible to receive your ballot by mail.  It's highly recommended to submit the application at your earliest convenience to avoid delays in the US postal system.

Track Your Ballot 
Once your application has been received, and the ballot has been mailed from the Town Clerk's office, you can track the status.  You can also track when the ballot has been received and accepted in the Town Clerk's office.   Click HERE to track your ballot.  Please be patient, as we have no control over the postal system, and the State system may take 24 hours to update.

If you’re emailing your application, you need to sign it in a way that can be compared to your hand-written signature. Electronic signatures, scanned applications, and photos of applications are acceptable. Typed signatures cannot be accepted.

NEW:   If you are a registered voter, and you have not submitted a vote by mail application or absentee ballot application, you may submit your Vote by Mail application onlinethrough our Mail-in Ballot Application System.

Federal 2020 Census
Based on the 2020 Federal Census, Wenham will be split between two State Representatives, the 6th Essex District (with Beverly) and the 13th Essex District (with Danvers and parts of Topsfield, Middleton, and Peabody).   This will not impact Wenham's Annual (local) elections.  As we move into 2022, please check back here for updates on the sub-precincts.


UPDATE:  At the Select Board meeting held on December 7th, they voted to keep the one precinct for Wenham, with sub-precicnts for State Elections.
