Effective October 21, 2020, the outdoor watering ban in the Town of Wenham has been lifted until further notice.
The Water Commission voted to lift the outdoor water ban but would like to remind the residents that a level 2 drought warning is still in effect for our region of the state due to the abnormally dry summer. Although conservation is still necessary and we encourage residents to minimize overall water use, the need for outdoor water use has all but come to an end for this year. The Water Department would like to commend the residents of Wenham that did comply with the water ban, helping to reduce water consumption this summer and for their understanding and cooperation.
At their September 23, 2020 meeting, the Water Commission voted to extend the water ban limiting all non-essential outdoor water use until further notice.
On September 4, 2020, Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Kathleen Theoharides maintained the Level 2 - Significant Drought declaration for the entire Commonwealth, including the Western, Connecticut River Valley, Central, Northeast, Southeast, Cape Cod, and Islands drought regions, based on advice from the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force.
The Secretary asked that we please continue to implement conditions pertaining to outdoor water use limitations required when the Drought Management Task Force declares a Drought Advisory (now a Level 2 - Significant Drought) or higher. https://www.mass.gov/news/significant-drought-conditions-continue-across-massachusetts
The Drought Task Force meets again on October 7, 2020.
