(formerly known as Wenham Issues of Social Service
& Housing)
What is WISSH?
Wenham Issues of Social
Services Help is a Committee approved by the Wenham Board of Selectman
to assist them in serving Wenham residents in need of temporary
financial or social-service assistance.
No town monies are used,
WISSH functions on donations from both residents and businesses. The
mission of WISSH is to identify the social-service needs of Wenham
residents and to coordinate and implement appropriate immediate unmet
financial assistance to those in need.
Who
is Eligible?
All residents of Wenham,
meeting basic financial requirements, who need assistance to meet
emergency situations where such assistance is unavailable from other
sources.
How
is the call and request kept confidential?
Strict confidentiality is
maintained through the use of a coded process to transact resident
assistance. The WISSH Chair is the only person aware of the
individual’s name. The private Town Hall phone number can only be
accessed by the WISSH Chair person.

do I get help?
Call
the WISSH Chair at a confidentially maintained phone number –
978-468-5520 x 9. Please be prepared to leave a message and the WISSH
Chair will return the call as soon as possible.
What Social Services Assistance can WISSH help me with?
WISSH
can assist Wenham residents, through funding AND referrals to other
service organizations. WISSH can provide funding assistance for Fuel
and Utility Bills, Food and Rent.
How
is Financial Assistance provided?
Payments are generally sent directly to vendors or creditors, but
cards for food are also provided.

WISSH
does not replace traditional governmental programs or social service
organizations, but helps people in ways that those programs cannot. It
also maintains a directory of over 60 regional social service agencies
and refers people to those programs when appropriate.
