On April 1, 1964, the Selectmen voted to
enter the Eastern Essex District of Veterans Affairs. The member
towns include, Essex, Hamilton, Ipswich and Wenham. A Board
consisting of the chairman of the Board of Selectmen in each member
town appoints a director of veteran's services of the district and an
assistant director, if necessary. Two main programs are
provided: 1) to inform and assist veterans and their families of their
rights and entitlements under the law; and 2) to render financial
assistance in the time of need pursuant to Chapter 115 of the General
Laws.
